Cultural walk around Marsaskala Bay as the locality is threatened by the plan for a Yacht Marina

Marsaskala residents and Moviment Graffitti are organising a cultural walk around Marsaskala Bay on Sunday, 14 November at 10am. The activity is going to start from the former National Swimming Pool in Żonqor, and we will walk along the bay until we reach Jerma.

This walk is being organised in the context of plans by Transport Malta to turn Marsaskala Bay into a Yacht Marina that will take over the sea and the shores as well as hamper social and cultural activities in Marsaskala. During short stops around the bay in the heart of the locality, Perit Ruben Abela, President of the Wirt iż-Żejtun association, will be recounting important events, showing historical sites, and passing on information of socio-cultural value. The participants will have the opportunity to appreciate all that we would lose if Transport Malta’s proposal were to be carried out, in which every inch of the bay and shore will be taken by pontoons for the rich and their yachts.

We are aware that the authorities are currently doing their utmost to put an end to this issue following the great anger shown by the people when the plans for a Yacht Marina were published in a call for investors. However, we also know that the plans are still being put in motion in the same way, behind everyone’s backs, so much so that the call for investors has remained in place. This call seems to have been answered by some of the biggest businesses in Malta, many of which are already responsible for environmental disasters, dirty deals, and projects that are detrimental to our quality of life.

For this reason, the resistance against the plan for a Yacht Marina in Marsaskala needs to continue, so that those who have already seized a lot of space and disrupted our quality of life do not continue to line their pockets at our expense.

In this cultural walk, we will be enjoying and appreciating Marsaskala Bay, while reiterating that there should be no Yacht Marina in the locality.

Mixja kulturali madwar il-Bajja ta’ Wied il-Għajn hekk kif il-lokalità tinsab mhedda mill-pjan għal Yacht Marina

Residenti Skalin u l-Moviment Graffitti qegħdin jorganizzaw mixja kulturali madwar il-Bajja ta’ Wied il-Għajn nhar il-Ħadd 14 ta’ Novembru fl-10 ta’ filgħodu. L-attività se tibda minn fejn l-ex Pixxina Nazzjonali, iż-Żonqor, fejn minn hemmhekk se nimxu tul il-bajja sakemm naslu ħdejn il-Jerma.

Din il-mixja qed tiġi organizzata fil-kuntest ta’ pjanijiet minn Transport Malta sabiex il-Bajja ta’ Wied il-Għajn tinbidel f’Yacht Marina li ser toħnoq il-baħar u x-xatt kif ukoll ixxekkel l-attivitajiet soċjali u kulturali f’Wied il-Għajn. Waqt waqfiet qosra madwar din il-bajja fil-qalba tal-lokalità, il-Perit Ruben Abela, President tal-għaqda Wirt iż-Żejtun, ser ikun qiegħed jirrakkonta ġrajjiet importanti, juri siti storiċi u jgħaddi informazzjoni ta’ valur soċjo-kulturali. Il-parteċipanti ser ikollhom l-opportunità japprezzaw dak kollu li ser nitilfu kieku kellha titwettaq il-proposta ta’ Transport Malta li biha kull pulzier tal-bajja u tax-xatt jittieħed minn puntuni u jottijiet tas-sinjuruni.

Aħna konxji li bħalissa l-awtoritajiet qegħdin jagħmlu minn kollox sabiex imewtu din il-kwistjoni wara r-rabja kbira li wera l-poplu meta ġew ippubblikati il-pjanijiet għal Yacht Marina f’sejħa għall-investituri. Iżda nafu wkoll li l-pjanijiet għadhom għaddejjin bl-istess mod, minn wara dahar kulħadd, tant li s-sejħa għall-investituri baqgħet fis-seħħ. Għal din is-sejħa jidher li wieġeb uħud mill-ikbar negozji f’Malti li ħafna minnhom huma diġà responsabbli ta’ sfreġji ambjentali, ftehimiet maħmuġa u proġetti dannużi għall-kwalità tal-ħajja tagħna.

Għalhekk ir-reżistenza kontra il-pjan għal Yacht Marina f’Wied il-Għajn jeħtieġ li tkompli sabiex dawk li diġà ħatfu ħafna spazji u ħarbtu l-kwalità tal-ħajja tagħna ma jkomplux jitħanżru minn fuq dahrna.

F’din il-mixja kulturali ser inkunu qed ingawdu u napprezzaw il-Bajja ta’ Wied il-Għajn filwaqt li ntennu li m’għandu jkun hemm ebda Yacht Marina fil-lokalità.
