Coalition Spazji Miftuħa has expressed its satisfaction following a meeting with Prime Minister Robert Abela and Environment Minister Aaron Farrugia on the issue of public access to Aħrax and Miżieb. Spazji Miftuħa’s delegation was composed of Wayne Flask (Moviment Graffitti), Mark Sultana (BirdLife Malta), Dr Claire Bonello (Futur Ambjent Wieħed) and Matthew Abela Gauci (Outdoor Recreation and Camping Association – Malta).
In an hour-long meeting, the four representatives of the coalition outlined their concerns and proposals for the effective management of these sites, with a focus on guaranteeing open access to everyone at all times of day during the year, enforcement and accountability, and the proposal for Ambjent Malta to be granted the management of these sites in collaboration with all stakeholders.
The coalition is publishing an open letter to the PM and Environment Minister with its concerns and suggestions on this issue.
In less than a month since its launch, Spazji Miftuħa has also received the backing of over 60 groups and organisations endorsing the coalition and its demands. Survey results published on Wednesday 27th May clearly outlined the public sentiment on this issue, whereby the vast majority of all respondents disagree with the restriction of access to these two contested areas, and demanded more public open spaces to be made available.

Spazji Miftuħa sodisfatta bil-laqgħa mal-PM
Il-Koalizzjoni tinsisti fuq l-aċċess miftuħ u l-immaniġġjar tal-Aħrax u l-Miżieb mill-Gvern
Il-Koalizzjoni Spazji Miftuħa wriet is-sodisfazzjon tagħha wara laqgħa mal-Prim Ministru Robert Abela u l-Ministru għall-Ambjent Aaron Farrugia dwar il-kwistjoni tal-aċċess pubbliku għall-Aħrax u l-Miżieb. Spazji Miftuħa kienet irrapreżentata minn Wayne Flask (Moviment Graffitti), Mark Sultana (BirdLife Malta), Dr Claire Bonello (Futur Ambjent Wieħed) u Matthew Abela Gauci (Outdoor Recreation and Camping Association – Malta).
F’laqgħa ta’ madwar siegħa, l-erba’ rappreżentanti wrew it-tħassib u l-proposti tagħhom għall-immaniġġjar effettiv ta’ dawn is-siti, b’enfasi fuq il-garanzija tal-aċċess miftuħ għal kulħadd fil-ħinijiet kollha tas-sena, l-infurzar u r-responsabbiltà, u l-proposta sabiex Ambjent Malta tingħata l-immaniġġjar ta’ dawn s-siti b’kollaborazzjoni mal-partijiet interessati kollha.
Il-koalizzjoni qed tippubblika ittra miftuħa lill-Prim Ministru u l-Ministru tal-Ambjent bit-tħassib u s-suġġerimenti tagħha dwar din il-kwistjoni.
F’inqas minn xahar mit-tnedija tagħha, Spazji Miftuħa rċeviet ukoll l-appoġġ ta’ ‘l fuq minn 60 grupp u organizzazzjoni li appoġġjaw lill-koalizzjoni u t-talbiet tagħha. Ir-riżultati tal-istħarriġ, li ġew ippubblikati nhar l-Erbgħa 27 ta’ Mejju, urew biċ-ċar is-sentiment tal-opinjoni pubblika dwar din il-kwistjoni, fejn il-maġġoranza l-kbira tal-parteċipanti ma qablux mar-restrizzjoni tal-aċċess għal dawn iż-żewġ żoni, u talbu li jkun hemm iktar spazji miftuħa għal pubbliku.
