The St. Julian’s Local Council and 11 NGOs welcome the Planning Commission’s decision to overturn the case officer’s recommendation regarding the private jetty in Balluta Bay from one of approval to one of refusal.
Several residents, the St. Julian’s Local Council and NGO representatives presented their objection to this Fortina/Captain Morgan proposal during the Planning Commission meeting today. They stated that the project runs counter to numerous planning policies and will have a deleterious impact on bathers and residents. They further commented that the application for a private jetty, forming part of a much larger network, was being filed in a piecemeal manner and that, contrary to what is being claimed, a private ferry for tourists does not constitute an alternative means of transport.
The Planning Commission accepted most of these objections and ordered the case officer to outline reasons for refusal of the application. The case will now be decided in a definitive manner on Tuesday 11th February.

Kunsill Lokali u NGOs jilqgħu d-deċiżjoni tal-Kummissjoni tal-Ippjanar li jkun hemm rakkomandazzjoni għar-rifjut ta’ moll privat fil-Bajja tal-Balluta
Il-Kunsill Lokali ta’ San Ġiljan u 11-il għaqda mhux governattiva jilqgħu d-deċiżjoni tal-Kummissjoni tal-Ippjanar li tbiddel ir-rakkomandazzjoni tal-case officer rigward il-moll privat fil-Bajja tal-Balluta għal waħda ta’ rifjut minn waħda ta’ approvazzjoni.
Diversi residenti, il-Kunsill Lokali ta’ San Ġiljan u rappreżentanti tal-NGOs ippreżentaw l-oġġezzjonijiet tagħhom għal din il-proposta tal-Fortina/Captain Morgan matul il-laqgħa tal-Kummissjoni tal-Ippjanar illum. Huma qalu li l-proġett imur kontra numru ta’ policies tal-ippjanar u se jkollu impatt negattiv ferm fuq l-għawwiema u r-residenti. Qalu wkoll li l-applikazzjoni għal moll privat, li huwa parti minn network ħafna ikbar, qed tiġi ppreżentata biċċa biċċa u li, għall-kuntrarju ta’ dak li qed jgħid l-applikant, ferry privat għat-turisti ma jistax jitqies bħala mezz alternattiv ta’ transport.
Il-Kummissjoni tal-Ippjanar aċċettat ħafna minn dawn l-oġġezzjonijiet u ordnat lill-case officer sabiex jelenka r-raġunijiet għar-rifjut tal-applikazzjoni. Il-każ se jiġi deċiż b’mod definittiv nhar it-Tlieta, 11 ta’ Frar.
