It is also the day when we remember that although in an increasing number of countries\, the LGBTIQ+ community is enjoying more rights\, millions in different parts of the world\, still experience discrimination\, stigma\, violence and abuse\, imprisonment\, and even death. \n On this day we are meeting at Maori\, Triq il-Lanċa\, Valletta to raise awareness about these issues as well as to have some fun. There will be quizzes\, games\, music and dance in a safe space from 6.30 pm onwards.

DESCRIPTION:Local leaders of the El Hiblu 3 campaign would like to invite you to join us this Friday June 9th at the Office of the AG\, South Street\, Valletta to press for the outrageous charges against Amara\, Abdalla and Kader to be dropped. \nRecently the vessel owner Salah el Hiblu was charged with major cocaine smuggling in Spain. His credibility as the prosecution’s main witness is thus seriously damaged. \nIn addition\, we have collected more signatures for the petition in recent weeks. \nWe do hope you can join us in an effort to ameliorate the growing institutionalised racism and to end the terror that the young men feel confronted by these trumped-up charges that could lead to life sentences.

SUMMARY:Thrift for Solidarity - Fundraiser for Syrian LGBTIQ+
DESCRIPTION: MGRM\, YMCA Malta\, Moviment Graffitti and friends will be thrifting to fundraise for our LGBTQI+ siblings in Syria. \n While for a lot of Maltese\, the earthquake was a news item that we heard of earlier this year\, people are still suffering from the after effects\, causing an indescribable trauma to a magnitude of which we can’t possibly understand. \n While there has been amazing international support we know that international aid does not reach everyone equally\, because society doesn’t deem everyone equal. The politicians that oppress the LGBTQI+ community in. Syria are the same that have responded inadequately to the worst natural disaster to ever hit the region. \n Taxes raised for earthquake disaster relief are being misspent and the lack of disaster relief preparedness has cost too many lives. \n Having already done one for a Turkish organisation last March\, we were also meant to fund for a Syrian organisation\, however\, for reasons mentioned above\, this required a bit more research and logistics\, to ensure that the funds will ultimately reach the community. \n We will be raising funds for SGSE/SEEN\, who you can see more about here: https://www.instagram.com/sgse.syria/ \n This will be done thanks to our community members who will return to host stalls with clothes\, books\, art and more for you to thrift away at. \n Everyone is welcome. \n Later on\, we will push the tables and dance our pent up frustrations away! \n Massive thanks to Maori bar for offering to host us.

DESCRIPTION: For the occasion of International Safe Abortion Day\, join us for a screening of ‘The Janes’ followed by brief talks and a group discussion! \n The 2022 documentary tells the true story of members of the Jane Collective\, a group of women who performed abortions in the US from 1968 until abortion was legalised in 1973 through Roe v. Wade. The documentary features interviews with several members of the collective. (Roe v. Wade was in effect until 2022\, when it was overturned). \n After the screening\, we will turn our attention to the local context. \n We will first have 2 brief talks by Prof Isabel Stabile and Dr Natalie Psaila from Doctors for Choice\, who will talk about the local Family Planning Advisory Service (FPAS Malta)\, which provides information on reproductive health\, and the Abortion Doula Support Service\, which provides information and support specifically on abortion. Next\, Liza Caruana-Finkel\, a helpline volunteer with Abortion Support Network\, will talk about the organisation’s work in helping people across Europe (including Malta) access abortions through information and financial assistance. \n Afterwards\, we will open up to a group discussion on abortion in relation to Malta. In fact\, we all know and love people who have had abortions. Abortion is common. Abortion is normal. \n But abortion is also criminalised. Just a few months ago\, a woman was prosecuted for having an abortion in Malta. Reported to the police by her abusive partner\, the State helped perpetuate the cycle of violence. \n People who have abortions should not be judged or criminalised. All residents of Malta deserve to be treated with respect and to have the autonomy to decide what is best for ourselves\, our bodies\, our lives. \n The Voice for Choice coalition\, made up of 14 organisations and groups\, will continue to fight until abortion is decriminalised\, normalised\, destigmatised\, and made available and accessible locally. \nJoin us!

SUMMARY:End the Genocide in Gaza
DESCRIPTION:Palestinians in Gaza are being massacred by Israel with the complicity of Europe. Continuous bombardments\, including the bombardment of a school and a hospital\, led to thousands of children\, women and men to be brutally killed. And Gaza is also dying of thirst\, hunger and desperation after Israel stopped the supply of water\, food and fuel. \nOn Saturday we are meeting in front of Parliament in Valletta\, where we will lie on the ground in solidarity with the people of Gaza\, the victims of a cruel oppression that we cannot even start to imagine. \nGaza is a strip of land the size of Malta\, turned into a prison by Israel in 2007. Around two and a half million Palestinians live on this piece of land\, most of them refugees forcibly displaced from their land in 1948 with the creation of the Israeli state. \nFor 75 years\, Israel has been forcing Palestinians out of their homes while implementing an apartheid system. And in these last two corners that they have left – Gaza and the West Bank – Israel has continued to colonise Palestinians and to keep them under siege. \nBut now Israel has moved on to the next phase: Genocide. \nThere has never been a time when international solidarity with the Palestinian people was needed as much as it is today. Europe should immediately ask for the attacks on Gaza to stop and impose sanctions on Israel as long as it continues to occupy Palestinian territories. \nSee you on Saturday! \n****** \nIl-Palestinjani f’Gaża qed jiġu mmassakrati mill-Iżrael bil-kompliċità tal-Ewropa. SUMMARY:Her-Story: Women's Suffrage in Malta
DESCRIPTION:In October 1947\, women in Malta could vote for the first time. \nMaltese women did not take to the streets to fight for the vote but it was still a huge struggle\, fought in the corridors of power and on the media\, until their right as equal citizens was recognised by a male dominated political system. Such important events of her-story are often neglected and perhaps not given the importance they deserve. \nToday\, 76 years later\, women’s political representation in Malta still remains relatively low. Women have still not managed to make significant inroads in the local political sphere. We will be discussing the part of her-story related to women’s suffrage in Malta with Professor Carmen Sammut who has published research in this area. \nProfessor Sammut will give a short presentation on the topic followed by a community discussion. \nWe invite you to join us for a glass of wine and to participate in the conversation on Monday\, 23rd October at 6.30 p.m. \nEntrance is free.

SUMMARY:Migrant Children in Malta - Documentary screening and discussion
DESCRIPTION:Join us this evening for the screening of 4 short documentaries and a community discussion on migrant children. To celebrate World Children’s Day\, we will come together to talk about children’s rights\, specifically those who are migrants\, refugees\, without citizenship and/or stateless. \nWe will be showing 4 short documentaries on migrant children. \n– ‘A Life On Hold’ follows Somali refugee Omar\, who was forced to leave Somalia at 13 years old because of war.\n– ‘The House is not There’ is an animated video about Henry\, who was a child soldier in El Salvador.\n– Finally\, two Minsija videos\, a collaboration between MaltaToday\, MCAST and Moviment Graffitti\, tell the stories of Alex who was born in Sudan and fled to Malta at the age of 7 and 17-year-old Joseph who was born in Malta but is still stateless. \nMillions of people worldwide are stateless\, and many among them are children. This means they are not recognised by any country\, they are not provided with birth certificates\, and they are denied access to education\, legal employment\, health\, etc. According to 2023 numbers\, over 170 people in Malta are stateless and half of them are children. \nThis evening we will have a community discussion that we hope will help in pressuring the Maltese government to take action and enforce the Convention on the Rights of the Child\, and international law\, and take measures that allow migrant children to live a dignified life.

DESCRIPTION:Nhar il-Ħadd li ġej\, residenti mill-Imqabba\, il-Qrendi\, iż-Żurrieq u s-Siġġiewi se jkunu qed jingħaqdu flimkien fi protesta kontra r-rilokazzjoni ta’ impjant tat-tarmak u l-konkrit fl-Imqabba. \nIl-protesta se tibda fl-10am quddiem il-Knisja Parrokkjali tal-Qrendi fejn wara se ssir mixja paċifika sal-Knisja ta’ San Mattew tal-Maqluba. \nAħna se nkunu qed nattendu din il-protesta b’turija ta’ appoġġ lejn dawn ir-residenti u nħeġġu lil kull min huwa affettwat biex jattendi bi ħġaru. \nIr-residenti\, flimkien mal-Kunsilli Lokali tal-lokalitajiet rispettivi\, jinsabu serjament imħassba dwar l-effetti li impjant tat-tarmak u tal-konkrit\, madwar 500 metru biss ’il bogħod minn żoni residenzjali\, se jkollu fuq saħħithom u l-kwalità tal-ħajja tagħhom. \nHija ġennata li l-awtoritajiet\, fosthom l-ERA\, mhuma jsibu l-ebda oġġezzjoni għar-rilokazzjoni ta’ dan l-impjant qalb ir-residenti. L-ERA qed tgħid li l-impatti li dan l-impjant jista’ jkollu f’termini ta’ storbju u ġenerazzjoni ta’ trabijiet mhumiex ta’ tħassib\, iżda ma ssemmi xejn dwar id-dħaħen tossiċi għas-saħħa li kapaċi jipproduċu dawn l-impjanti. \nNistgħu nistaqsu lir-residenti tal-Iklin u San Ġwann li jgħixu qrib l-impjant tal-Bitmac dwar id-dħaħen tossiċi li jiġġeneraw impjanti tal-asfalt. SUMMARY:Dimostrazzjoni - Reżistenza għall-kultura ta’ vjolenza
DESCRIPTION:25th November is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Moviment Graffitti\, together with Young Progressive Beings\, is organising a protest march and action as a form of resistance to the culture of violence that characterises our patriarchal society. \nA culture of violence is one which normalises\, justifies and therefore creates a context where violence can flourish in all its forms. Violence against women can be domestic\, physical\, sexual\, social\, moral\, psychological\, economic\, political\, religious\, financial you name it\, women have been subjected to it. We live in a society where violence against women is often concealed behind jokes\, unwanted comments full of sexual connotations (often disguised as compliments)\, and other stereotyped behaviour. \n\nOn Sunday 26th November\, we will be meeting near the Triton Fountain at 11.00 a.m. to march in protest against this culture of violence and to empower women to resist violence in all its forms. Join us. Be part of the fight against gender-based violence\, which affects mostly women. You can bring your own placards or use ours.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for two evenings of free film screenings dedicated to Palestine. \nThe current situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territories and in Gaza is so alarming and worrying\, that we must keep a spotlight on it. In the face of the current genocide in Gaza we tend to feel alone and totally powerless. Hence\, we believe it is important to express our solidarity with the Palestinian people in any way possible. We cannot and we should not stop talking about these atrocities. \nĊine-Palestina will be showing two recently-released films concerning Palestine. After each screening there will be a short discussion about the film and the current situation\, as well as nibbles and drinks from our bar. \nFree entrance. \n👉 Farha (2021) – 26th November\, 18:00. Farha tells the story of the 1948 Nakba from the perspective of a young Palestinian girl. \n👉 Gaza Mon Amour (2020) – 3rd December\, 18:00. This romantic drama takes place in the daily life of Gaza. The film is not centred on political/historical facts\, and will immerse you in the landscapes and lives of people in Gaza.
