DESCRIPTION: Wednesday\, 8th March is International Women’s Day 2023. Women’s day has a long history of women protesting against injustices and fighting for change as well as remembering their struggles and achievements. This year we will once again be marching in protest against the injustices of our incompetent and insensitive systems and the inequality which women continue to experience in our patriarchal society. \n This year the theme we have chosen is Women United against Injustice (Nisa Magħqudin għax mill-Ġustizzja Mċaħħdin). This theme has been chosen because of the many injustices that women in our society face every day especially when they seek justice through our institutions. Over the past months alone\, we have seen senseless sentences and court decisions\, long years of waiting for action to be taken or for justice to be served\, police inaction which could have prevented serious crimes such as domestic violence and femicide\, lack of information\, lack of coordination\, as well as instances of baseless victim blaming. Women experience injustice not only because of inequality and discrimination but also because our justice system is a farce. \n Join us on Wednesday\, 8th March at 5.30 pm near the Triton Fountain in Floriana where we will start our protest march to voice our anger at these institutions which are supposed to protect us and to demand that our voices be heard and justice served. The march will end in front of the law courts where we will shout our demands. \n Come and bring other women. DESCRIPTION: After a year of record road fatalities in 2022 and perpetual road congestion\, we will be addressing the press in front of Parliament in Valletta to push the Maltese authorities for safe and efficient roads and transport systems that stop treating pedestrians\, cyclists\, and users of public transport as a mere afterthought to cars. Over the years\, the combination of poorly designed infrastructure for active commuting\, the perpetuated problem of an overdependence of cars\, and inefficient public transportation have made our streets a death trap\, with road fatalities currently being 10 times higher than the rest of the EU. \nJoin us on Saturday 18th March at 9am\, where we will be making the following demands to the authorities  \n Nationalise and invest further into all public transport \n Publish standards for pedestrian and cycling infrastructure\, and a legally-binding national cycling policy \n Update our Highway Code to introduce the hierarchy of road users\, giving those in charge of vehicles that can cause the greatest harm the greatest responsibility to reduce the danger to the more vulnerable road users \n Introduce Presumed Liability laws to protect the more vulnerable road users \n Enhance the quality of our village cores by prioritising active mobility allowing people to safely walk or cycle within their villages. \n\nMoviment Graffitti | Rota | Friends of the Earth Malta

DESCRIPTION:MGRM\, YMCA Malta\, Moviment Graffitti and friends will be thrifting to fundraise for our LGBTQI+ siblings in Turkey and Syria. \nOur community members will host stalls with clothes\, books\, art and more for you to thrift away at. Food will also be available. Everyone is welcome.\nLater on\, we will push the tables and dance our pent up frustrations away! \nThe earthquakes that shook Turkey and Syria have left the diaspora across the world in shock. What might just be another news item for some of us in Malta is an indescribable trauma\, the magnitude of which we can’t possibly understand. While there has been amazing international support we know that international aid does not reach everyone equally\, because society doesn’t deem everyone equal. The politicians that oppress the LGBTQI+ community in Turkey and Syria are the same that have responded inadequately to the worst natural disaster to ever hit the region. Taxes raised for earthquake disaster relief are being misspent and the lack of disaster relief preparedness has cost too many lives. \nThis is why we are carefully researching the organisations to send money to. In the following days we will be introducing these organisations to you (if we can) and we guarantee that every cent raised will benefit the LGBTQI+ community in the region. \nMassive thanks to Maori bar for offering to host us.

SUMMARY:Exhibition 'Like Flour' - Testimonies from Detention during the Pandemic
DESCRIPTION: ‘Like Flour’ is a project spearheaded by photojournalist Joanna Demarco. The project navigates the experiences of people who were detained in Malta’s migrant detention centres during the pandemic\, questioning and shining a light on the ways in which the inhumane treatment of one of Malta’s most vulnerable communities became worse throughout that period. \n Through testimonies\, objects\, photographs and mobile images taken by the detained asylum-seekers themselves\, the work provides a rare peephole into a world that is shrouded in secrecy. Journalists and NGOs continue to have little to no access to the detention centres to bear witness to the neglect\, making these stories a rare opportunity for the outside world to hear what the asylum-seekers went through first hand. \n The project\, which is being exhibited at Moviment Graffitti’s headquarters between Thursday 30th March and Friday 7th April\, was carried out in collaboration with aditus foundation and journalist Julian Delia. The project was supported by the National Geographic COVID-19 Emergency Fund. \n The objective of the display is to act as a platform for discussion on the topic of detention. DESCRIPTION: MGRM\, YMCA Malta\, Moviment Graffitti and friends will be thrifting to fundraise for our LGBTQI+ siblings in Syria. \n While for a lot of Maltese\, the earthquake was a news item that we heard of earlier this year\, people are still suffering from the after effects\, causing an indescribable trauma to a magnitude of which we can’t possibly understand. \n While there has been amazing international support we know that international aid does not reach everyone equally\, because society doesn’t deem everyone equal. The politicians that oppress the LGBTQI+ community in. Syria are the same that have responded inadequately to the worst natural disaster to ever hit the region. \n Taxes raised for earthquake disaster relief are being misspent and the lack of disaster relief preparedness has cost too many lives. \n Having already done one for a Turkish organisation last March\, we were also meant to fund for a Syrian organisation\, however\, for reasons mentioned above\, this required a bit more research and logistics\, to ensure that the funds will ultimately reach the community. \n We will be raising funds for SGSE/SEEN\, who you can see more about here: https://www.instagram.com/sgse.syria/ \n This will be done thanks to our community members who will return to host stalls with clothes\, books\, art and more for you to thrift away at. \n Everyone is welcome. \n Later on\, we will push the tables and dance our pent up frustrations away! \n Massive thanks to Maori bar for offering to host us.

SUMMARY:Documentary Screening - The Janes
DESCRIPTION: For the occasion of International Safe Abortion Day\, join us for a screening of ‘The Janes’ followed by brief talks and a group discussion! \n The 2022 documentary tells the true story of members of the Jane Collective\, a group of women who performed abortions in the US from 1968 until abortion was legalised in 1973 through Roe v. Wade. The documentary features interviews with several members of the collective. (Roe v. Wade was in effect until 2022\, when it was overturned). \n After the screening\, we will turn our attention to the local context. \n We will first have 2 brief talks by Prof Isabel Stabile and Dr Natalie Psaila from Doctors for Choice\, who will talk about the local Family Planning Advisory Service (FPAS Malta)\, which provides information on reproductive health\, and the Abortion Doula Support Service\, which provides information and support specifically on abortion. Next\, Liza Caruana-Finkel\, a helpline volunteer with Abortion Support Network\, will talk about the organisation’s work in helping people across Europe (including Malta) access abortions through information and financial assistance. \n Afterwards\, we will open up to a group discussion on abortion in relation to Malta. Bring your thoughts and questions! \n Entrance is free\, and you are welcome to bring your own snacks or purchase drinks from the bar! \nSee you there

The march will start at 4pm\, so please arrive before then. After walking through Valletta\, we will gather in front of the law courts. There\, we will have speeches\, performances\, merchandise\, and more! \n This year’s theme is ‘abortion stigma.’ \n Each year\, hundreds of people in Malta have abortions. In fact\, we all know and love people who have had abortions. Abortion is common. Abortion is normal. \n But abortion is also criminalised. Just a few months ago\, a woman was prosecuted for having an abortion in Malta. Reported to the police by her abusive partner\, the State helped perpetuate the cycle of violence. \n People who have abortions should not be judged or criminalised. All residents of Malta deserve to be treated with respect and to have the autonomy to decide what is best for ourselves\, our bodies\, our lives. \n The Voice for Choice coalition\, made up of 14 organisations and groups\, will continue to fight until abortion is decriminalised\, normalised\, destigmatised\, and made available and accessible locally. \nJoin us!

DESCRIPTION:📍 Studenti Graffitti\, the student wing of Moviment Graffitti\, will be present at the KSU Freshers’ Week 2023 from Monday 2nd till Thursday 5th of October between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. \n📣 We invite you to visit our stand if you are interested in joining an organisation which is active in the community in areas such as the environment\, feminism\, worker’s rights\, immigration\, LGBTIQ+ rights and more. \n📝 Members from Studenti Graffitti will be present to explain what the role of the organisation is in the current context and give you more information on current campaigns such as our campaigns on overdevelopment\, the environment\, workers’ issues and the decriminalisation of abortion. \n📣 Feel free to voice your ideas on the issues or problems you find at University so that Moviment Graffitti can also be a platform for student campaigns.
