Malta-Gozo tunnel – organisations call for total transparency and law observance

In a judicial protest (see here) filed by a broad network of NGOs and professional bodies, Infrastructure Malta, the Transport Minister and the Planning Minister have been called upon to provide full transparency about the Malta-Gozo tunnel.

“Infrastructure Malta is going ahead with the procedures for the tunnel when the Transport Plan does not provide for it and before the obligatory assessment of alternatives and public consultation is carried out. This is another attempt to force things through without the required environmental, health and traffic studies can be carried out – making public consultation redundant” said a spokesperson for the protestants.

The twelve organisations filing the judicial protest are:

Bicycle Advocacy Group, BirdLife Malta, Din l-Art Ħelwa, Flimkien għal Ambjent Aħjar, Friends of the Earth Malta, Isles of the Left, Kamra tal-Periti, Moviment Graffitti, Nature Trust (Malta), Ramblers’ Association of Malta, The Archaeological Society Malta and Żminijietna – Voice of the Left

Mina bejn Malta u Għawdex – numru ta’ organizzazzjonijiet isejħu għal trasparenza u għal ħarsien tal-liġi

Fi protest ġudizzjarju (ara hawn) imressaq minn firxa wiesgħa ta’ NGOs u korpi professjonali, Infrastructure Malta, il-Ministru tat-Trasport u l-Ministru tal-Ippjanar ġew imsejħa biex jipprovdu trasparenza totali dwar il-mina ta’ bejn Malta u Għawdex.

“Infrastructure Malta baqgħet għaddejja bil-proċeduri għall-mina meta l-Pjan dwar it-Trasport ma jipprovdix għaliha u qabel ma saru l-assessjar u l-konsultazzjoni pubblika obbligatorji bil-liġi. Dan huwa attentat ieħor fejn l-affarijiet jiġu mbuttati ‘l quddiem mingħajr ma jsiru l-istudji ambjentali, tas-saħħa u tat-traffiku – proċessi imposti fuq il-poplu li jirrendu l-konsultazzjoni pubblika irrelevanti”, qal kelliem għall-protestanti.

It-tnax-il organizzazzjoni li ressqu l-protest ġudizzjarju huma:

Bicycle Advocacy Group, BirdLife Malta, Din l-Art Ħelwa, Flimkien għal Ambjent Aħjar, Friends of the Earth Malta, Isles of the Left, Kamra tal-Periti, Moviment Graffitti, Nature Trust (Malta), Ramblers’ Association of Malta, The Archaeological Society Malta u Żminijietna – Leħen ix-Xellug.
